A POST office is to re-open back in its original premises - a year after it had to move.

Prettygate Post Office is to re-open next month, returning to its former location in The Commons a year after it had been moved to Prettygate Library.

The post office will reopen on August 11 at 100 The Commons, Colchester, alongside Colchester Cat Rescue.

The address had previously been the convenience store McColl’s but after it closed down its branch there, the post office was forced to move to Prettygate Library in September.

Speaking about the return of the Post Office to its original location in Prettygate, Wendy Hamilton, the network provision lead of the Post Office, said: “We are delighted to be restoring a full-time post office to Prettygate, as we know how important post office services are to a community.”

She added: “We thank Essex County Council for letting us use Prettygate Library for the interim post office.”

When Prettygate Post Office re-opens in The Commons next month, it will offer a 9am to 5pm service Monday to Saturday.

Nationally, the Post Office has over 11,500 branches, with about 18 branches throughout Colchester town.
