EMERGENCY services were forced to work against the clock after being called to a woman's aide following a collision.

The West Mersea Coastguard Rescue Service were called in to action yesterday (June 26) following a collision between a car and a motorcycle.

A woman was left injured following the collision and need to be extracted from the Strood in West Mersea.

Police, ambulance crews and fire teams were called to scene of the incident with West Mersea Coastguard Rescue Service providing support.

But matters were made urgent after it was realised the emergency services had just 30 minutes to move the woman before the tide came in and flooded the area.

A spokesman for the coastguard rescue service said: "Tasked to support the extrication of a motorcyclist involved in a road collision on the Strood.

"The incident was made more urgent by the threat of a flooded road within 30 minutes of the Road Traffic Collision.

"Assisted by Essex Police East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.

"We would like to thank almost all of the public for their patience during a very traumatic incident for the young female rider.

"She was very brave and our thoughts are with her."
