EVERY eligible resident living in one part of Colchester has received a Covid vaccine, according to the latest figures.

NHS data shows 88,150 people in the borough had received both doses of their jab by June 20 - about 56 per cent of population.

Of these, 85,169 were aged 25 and over, representing 64 per cent of this age group who have been double jabbed.

And across Colchester, 76 per cent of residents aged over 16 have now received one vaccination.

In the Abbey Field area of the town all of those aged over 16 have now received a jab - the highest rate in the borough.

Marks Tey and Wakes Colne was second with 92.1 per cent of residents over 16 in the area having receive at least one vaccination, followed by West Bergholt and Wormingford on 89 per cent.

The area with the lowest coverage is Greenstead, where just 42. 6 per cent of people aged over 16 have received at least their first dose.

A significant milestone has also been reached for the vaccination programme across Essex and Suffolk.

The Essex Partnership Foundation Trust, which is running the vaccination programme across the areas, says it has now distributed more than 500,000 jabs at its vaccination centres.

Nigel Leonard, executive director of major projects and programmes at EPUT, said: “This is a major milestone and I am so proud of all our staff who have worked effortlessly to ensure we vaccinate as many people as possible.

“We are delighted to be part of the vaccination delivery programme and we are celebrating the massive amount of hard work by thousands of our healthcare colleagues and volunteer marshals across the region.

“Vaccinating half a million people is a fantastic achievement and while we take a moment to recognise it, we are continuing to offer the vaccine to as many people as we can.

“I urge anyone who is eligible for their first dose to come forward and book your vaccination as quickly as you can.”

EPUT says all residents over the age of 18 have now been offered a first dose apart from those who cannot have it for clinical reasons.

Those aged over 40 have also been offered the chance to bring forward their second jab from 12 weeks to eight weeks.

Over the weekend buses offering walk-in jabs were set up in Colchester in a bid to further ramp up the roll out before the proposed further lifting of restrictions next month.

However, Colchester’s average Covid infection rate continues to grow as the Delta variant of Covid continues to spread across the UK.

The borough’s average infection rate is now 78.6 cases per 100,000 people. This is because there were 153 cases confirmed in the borough in the week to June 20.

The average infection rate has increased from 52.9 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.

The highest number of cases in the week to June 19 was seen in Greenstead, 16, followed closely by Wivenhoe and University with 15.

Two areas - West Bergholt and Wormingford and Horkesley Heath, Langham and Dedham - recorded less than three cases.

Tendring’s average infection rate was 20.5 cases per 100,000 people during this week.
