A MAN is reported to have threatened a resident with a knife after he was confronted for trying to steal a mobile phone.
Essex Police has launched an investigation after a man approached another man from behind in Hythe Hill, Colchester.
During the incident, which occurred at about 1.10am today, the attacker is said to have attempted to steal the victim's mobile phone.
After the man was confronted by the victim, who is in his 20s, he brandished a large knife and threatened him with it.
The suspect has been described to officers as being black, about 5ft 9ins tall, with shoulder-length dreadlocked hair and wearing a black top and jeans.
