This week's round-up of cases before magistrates in north Essex include a man accused of dangerous driving and threats to kill, as well as an alleged threat to burn down a man's garage.

  • A MAN has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving and threatening to kill a man and burn down his garage.

Daniel Andrews, 40, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on June 4.

It is alleged he drove a Seat Leon in School Road, Elmstead Market, dangerously on January 30 last year.

It is further alleged he made threats to kill a complainant and burn down his garage on the same day.

Andrews, of Barnardiston Road, Colchester, denied charges of dangerous driving, making a threat to kill and making a threat to damage property.

He was released on unconditional bail until a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, July 2.

  • A MAN who harassed and threatened a woman has been jailed and hit with a restraining order.

Cameron Burgess, 31, caused his victim to fear violence would be used against her when he turned up at her home and made numerous calls and text messages.

He admitted sending communication conveying a threatening message, harassment and possession of cannabis.

Burgess, of Southway, Colchester, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on June 5 and was sentenced to 36 weeks imprisonment.

A restraining order was put in place until June 4, banning contact of any kind with his victim and keeping him from attending her address.

  • A DRUG driver has been banned from the roads for three years.

Lee Brown, 51, drove his BMW in Avon Way, Colchester, with cocaine in his system in October last year.

A test recorded 12mcg of cocaine per litre of blood, over the specified limit of 10mcg per litre.

Appearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on June 5, Brown, of Greenstead Road, Colchester, admitted a charge of drug driving.

He was banned from driving for three years and hit with a £120 fine.

He must pay a victim surcharge of £34.

  • A 77-YEAR-OLD drink driver has been hit with a hefty fine and a driving ban.

Pensioner Christina Pearce was found to have driven her Nissan Micra in Kirby Road, Walton, while over the legal alcohol limit.

A breath test recorded 65mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Pearce, of Salisbury Road, Clacton, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on June 5 and was banned from the roads for 17 months.

She must pay a £253 fine and prosecution costs of £105.
