A POPULAR Colchester musician remains in intensive care in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest behind the wheel, with his family thanking residents for their messages of support.

Joe Murphy, 41, suffered a cardiac arrest behind the wheel before crashing in Mersea Road, Colchester, on Saturday, June 5.

He suffered a total of six cardiac arrests and remains in intensive care at Basildon Hospital.

His family are asking people to share photos of memories of Joe on social media using the hashtag #joesarmy.

Older sister Hollie Kamel said: "The whole family have been so touched by the love and messages since Joe has been in hospital.

"We are truly touched and moved by the support he has received."

Friends are also urging the public to download or stream his band Koopa's single Stand Up 4 England in his honour.

They hope to get the song into the charter in his honour.

The pop-punk trio made history in 2007 when they became the first band to make the UK Top 40 through digital sales alone.

They were also the first unsigned band to achieve the feat.
