A NEW restaurant or bar looks set to be opening in Hythe in Colchester, with a licence application being submitted to the council.

Shuangshuang Ye and Wei Zhao have applied to Colchester Council for a premises licence for a property in King Edward Quay, Colchester.

The application site is believed to be the old home of Boadicea restaurant, whilst the application states the new premises will be called Knight Pavilion.

The licence would allow the business to serve alcohol on the premises from Monday to Sunday between 11.30am and 3am.

It would also allow live and recorded music to be played at the premises during the same hours.

Boadicea closed back in 2019 after the business went into liquidation with debts of more than £1 million.

It was closed by bailiffs in February due to money woes.

At the time restaurant boss Joshua Campbell-Broome told the Gazette it planned to reopen soon.

However, accountancy firm Larking Gowen was brought in to liquidate the firm’s assets to pay the company’s creditors.

Documents show in total Boadicea owes £1,037,269 to 23 different businesses based in Essex and further afield.

The property has been up for let after Boadicea closed.
