REPAIRS are finally being planned for what has been called the worst road for potholes in Colchester.

Essex Highways has confirmed it will be undertaking repairs to the potholes near the bridge over the River Colne in East Street next month.

Residents have regularly hit out at the state of the potholes in the road, which is a key route into the town centre.

Earlier this year Gazette readers chosen the street as one of the worst roads for potholes in the town.

Whilst works are ongoing, between July 19 and July 21, there will be a "Stop-Go" system in place, with staff moving traffic one lane at a time.

However, delays are expected whilst the works are completed.

An Essex Highways spokesperson said: “East Street Colchester is a key town centre route, and with other works around the town the timing is crucial to avoid major traffic delays.

“Work is now planned for Monday to Wednesday 19-21 July for permanent repairs to potholes near the bridge.

"Staff will use “Stop-Go boards” to keep traffic moving, one lane at a time, which have the advantage of being able to be quickly adjusted as the work progresses.

“There will inevitably be some delays while work is carried out, so we would ask all road users to please avoid the area if you can and to be patient if you do need to use East Street, thank you.”
