A witness, who asked not to be named, said the road has been closed due to someone threatening to jump off a roof.

He said fire engines, an ambulance and police officers all rushed to the scene.

He added: "We can't exit our road Cromwell Road as the road is shut.

"The police are still here and a man is still on a roof.

"Someone is trying to talk him down."

Two crews and the aerial ladder platform from Colchester attended but no action was required and they left the scene at 9.22pm.
