A POPULAR village café and craft shop, which took over an historic pub, has gone on the market as the owner decided to step down due to health issues.

Oranges and Lemons Shop and Café, in Rectory Hill, East Bergholt, is on the market for £74,999.

The property, which was formerly The Kings Head pub, has been trading as Oranges and Lemons for the past four years.

Idoia Garcia took over the property in the summer of 2017and it became popular with villagers and visitors alike.

But she is now having to step down due to issues with her health.

In a statement, she said: “Unfortunately I have health issues now meaning I cannot carry on working at the rate I do now.

“I hope you all understand my decision and thank you all so much for the support you have given me over the past years making my business so successful

“I couldn’t have done it without you all.”

Efforts to retain The Kings Head as a pub were made by campaigners in 2017 but they lost their battle after Babergh Council gave the green light for the 400-year-old building to be converted into a craft shop and café.
