A NEW craft beer and real ale shop is opening its doors for the first time today in Wivenhoe.

10 Beer Bottles, in Jolliffe's Yard, just off Wivenhoe High Street, will welcome its first customers from 12noon on Friday.

The business was created by Alresford resident Sammie Ife, who took over the former office unit back in March.

Gazette:

She said: "I worked in a real ale pub in Norwich where I am from which got me into beers.

"Starting a beer shop has always been something I have wanted to do.

"I had savings to do my PhD and I had completed my proposals ready to start.

"But then lockdown came and I just decided to go for it and start the shop.

"The money I had saved I have invested."

Sammie decided Wivenhoe was the perfect location for the shop and started searching for a suitable unit.

After appealing on social media she became aware of the available unit at Jolliffe's Yard, next to Colne Bookshop.

A total refit has taken place since she took over the premises earlier this year.

Gazette:

Sammie said: "We got the keys in March and obviously have had to apply for a licence.

"There have been some unexpected delays.

"I am so excited to open. It feels like it has all finally come together."

The shop will be open 10am to 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday, 10am to 6.30pm Friday and Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Hours may change seasonally in the future.

Gazette:

Sammie said: "We source as much locally as we can.

"I am from Norwich so we've got a lot of beers from Norfolk as well as Suffolk and of course Essex.

"I am looking to promote small breweries which have just started out."

Sammie added: "The response has so far been really positive.

"We have had people pop in and ask when we are opening whilst we are setting up."
