AN adventurous swan was spotted holding up town centre traffic during rush hour.

The mute swan was seen dodging traffic in East Street, in Colchester, on Monday at about 8.10am ruffling drivers’ feathers.

The bird was also sighted swanning around among the latest set of roadworks in Ipswich Road by drivers.

Arron Graham, who caught a picture of the bird brazenly crossing the road on his way to work, said: “There seemed to be a lot of traffic there for that time of the day.

“It was stood staring at the car for a the couple of minutes.”

He said he noticed the swan had a tag on its leg, but had no idea where the bird came from.

“My colleagues arrived in the car park a couple minutes after me and didn’t see the swan,” he added.

Yesterday Twitter user @GingerPower_ posted the photos of the bird in Ipswich Road, navigating the latest traffic restrictions, tagging Essex Police in the post and likening the situation to the infamous scene from movie Hot Fuzz.

The latest stage of the works at Ipswich Road have seen one lane closed on Monday morning so repairs can be made to Cowdray Bridge.
