A THUG attacked a woman before going on an illegal driving rampage and smashing a window at McDonald's.

Gez Sayers has been spared jail following his rampage in Hadleigh back in October last year.

The 31-year-old of Prittle Close, Benfleet, started off by attacking the woman by beating her.

He then drove to the McDonald's restaurant in High Street, Hadleigh, where he angrily attacked the property, causing damage to a perspex window.

Basildon Magistrates' Court heard that the total amount of damage done to the window was £200 and that Sayers had been violent and reckless when damaging it.

This incident led to the police being called, who pulled Sayers over on Hadleigh High Street as he was driving a Honda Civic.

Following roadside checks, Sayers was found to have no driving licence as he had previously been disqualified.

He also had no insurance for driving the Honda

Sayers was arrested at the scene before being bailed and appeared at magistrates' court this month.

He admitted all three counts against him.

Despite the string of offending and multiple incidents within one day, Sayers was spared jail by the magistrates bench.

The bench imposed a community order to run until November 16 next year, which will include 30 days of rehabilitation.

He must also complete 70 hours of unpaid work within a year.

The bench also ordered that Sayers pay £100 compensation to the woman he attacked, and £200 compensation to McDonald's for the damaged perspex window.

Sayers was additionally given a further six points on his driving record for driving without a licence, and he will remain disqualified from driving.
