A BOOMING Colchester takeaway business has made the final of the British Takeaway Awards - the Oscars of the takeaway world.

Burgers, Wings and Ribs, which launched inside a converted double decker bus back in May last year in Grange Way, is one of five finalists to make the shortlist in the south east region.

The finalists were voted through to this stage by the public and are now in the running to win Best Takeaway in their area.

They're each also in with a chance to win the coveted Best Takeaway in Britain award.

This year’s British Takeaway Aawards, held in London in September, will pay tribute to the hardworking restaurants which have adapted during the pandemic to deliver a taste of normality to those working from home, self isolating or simply looking for their favourite food as lockdown forced restaurants to close to diners.

Regional winners will receive £1,000 to further their business with the overall Best Takeaway in Britain winner taking home £5,000.

Andrew Kenny, managing director of Just Eat, said: “We’re thrilled to be back with the British Takeaway Awards for the sixth year running.

"Each year we’re amazed by the standard of entries and this year is no different, with a huge range of restaurants up for the awards, from family run takeaways to small chains.’’

"Celebrating the fantastic local takeaways across the UK is particularly important this year after many turned to their local restaurants for a lift throughout the lockdowns.

"The UK has been voting in force to give back to their local takeaway heroes and we can’t wait to honour the winners at the awards ceremony in September.”

Burgers, Wings and Ribs serves food inspired by American fast-food chains.

Part of the so-called “dirty” food craze their portion sizes are huge.
