AN 18-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing which resulted in a 60-year-old man being rushed to hospital.

Essex Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found with stab wounds outside a kebab house in Colchester on Saturday night.

Officers patrolling the area at 1.30am came across a man in his 60s who had been allegedly stabbed outside Bodrum Kebab House, in Crouch Street.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but has since been released.

Simon Crow, Colchester councillor, said: “I am horrified to hear about this incident in our town centre.

"Sadly it’s a reminder that we must continue with our efforts to minimise the threat of knife crime using every resource we have available.

“I wish the victim a full and speedy recovery and urge anyone who may have any information about this appalling incident to contact the police

Colchester councillor Mark Goach added: “It’s a horrific event and all my sympathies go to the victim and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

“I would support any initiatives to try to tackle knife crime.”

A spokesman for the force said: “Officers carried out a search of the area and quickly arrested an 18-year-old man from Colchester believed to be involved in the assault.

“He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody.

“Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with dash cam or doorbell footage from the area, to please get in contact.”
