RESOLUTE runners braved showers to take part in the Colchester Zoo 10k Stampede.

Nearly 1,500 hardy souls laced up their shoes for Sunday’s event, which started and finished at the Maldon Road zoo.

Watched by elephants, zebras, rhinos and giraffes, runners started in waves to adhere to social-distancing guidelines issued by RunBritain and UK Sport.

Among the thousands taking part and enjoying the scenic route were members of the JME (Jogging Made Easy) club, plus a contingent from Clacton Seafront Runners.

Both clubs sent in pictures for this spread.

Some runners were also running for worthy causes.

James Shuttlewood and partner Meg Parkin supported the MIND mental health charity and raised more than £600.

“Due to the lockdown, we both felt this cause was one that was relatable and very helpful to a lot of people,” said James.
