HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to a dad who died after falling from his electric bike while swerving to avoid a cat.

Dad-of-two Spencer Davenport, 50, of Canvey died due to serious injuries after the incident in Gafzelle Drive, Canvey.

His emotional mother paid tributes to her “popular” son.

Pauline Davenport, 72, of Canvey said: “He was riding his bike along Gafzelle Drive and a cat ran out and he swerved to miss it and he fell and crashed his head.

“He was constantly on his bike and was quite an experienced rider. He did not have a helmet on but was wearing gloves and knee pads.

“He doesn’t usually wear a helmet but always wears things under his clothes to protect him.

“He died quite quickly at the scene.”

Police, ambulances and an air ambulance rushed to the incident on April 26 and Essex Police said there was nobody else involved in the tragic death.

The grieving mother added: “He was a very popular person and was always playing his reggae music. He was known as the music man.

“He lived for his music and was very polite and well liked.

“He used to grown and trim bonsai trees and would sit for hours trimming them into different shapes.

“He also had a fond passion for making chopper bikes and they were very top notch – it was a goal of his.

“There wasn’t a day when he wouldn’t call me and he always said love you mum. His death was such a shock and I am devastated by it.”

Mrs Davenport said she was extremely close to her son and worries how she will cope without him after seeing him almost every day for years.

A host of residents and friends have been laying flowers in the street and Mrs Davenport said the support in the community has been a huge help during a very tough time.

She said it means a lot to know so many people thought highly of her son.
