CONCERNED residents have called for action after the countryside was blighted again by fly-tippers.

Mattresses, and kitchen equipment are among the haul abandoned on the roadside.

Farmers from the Cullen family reported the latest flytipping in Hill Road, leading to Great Oakley.

They said: “The problem is getting a lot worse.

“It’s a nationwide issue and it hasn’t been too bad in our area until the past year. Over the past two weeks it has exploded.

“It’s as if someone has set up a new waste disposal business in the area, and when they have realised the disposal sites charge you for their service, they’ve just driven along Hill Road and The Soils one night and tipped it all out of their van.

“We hope by sharing the issue we will be making people aware of it and to watch out for rogue waste businesses.

“If their price is too good, then no doubt they are disposing of it illegally.”

The issue has been seen right across north Essex where incidents are reported on average twice a day.

The spokesman for the family added: “The other site which is getting a lot worse is just off the A120 on a service road to Anglia Water’s sewage works.

“We are hoping we can make this area more secure to deter people from dumping down there with the co-operation of Anglia Water.”

Other residents have also commented on the increase in mess ruining the countryside.

Sue Swan described the mess as “unbelievable”.

“Mattresses, fridges and other items littered along the beautiful country road. This is such a blight on the beautiful countryside.”

Frustrated Harwich town councillor Geoff Smith has repeatedly called for fly-tippers to be brought to justice and be penalised for their criminal activity.

He labelled the junction of Mill Lane and Hordle Street, in Dovercourt, particular hotspots and added: “It is a continuous problem and we really do need the help of residents to bring it to an end, I’m seeing similar problems in a number of alleyways in Bathside.”

A Tendring Council spokesman said fly tips reported would be visited by council officers as soon as possible for investigation.

He added: “We always respond promptly to reports of fly-tipping on public land and take steps to identify who is responsible before arranging for a clear up.

“We deplore any fly-tipping which comes at a huge cost to both the public purse to clear up and to the communities who face it.

"We would remind people it is a crime not to care – it is your responsibility to ensure any contractor who takes away waste for you is properly licensed otherwise you can face prosecution.”
