COLCHESTER'S average coronavirus infection rate continues to fall, but Tendring's has almost doubled in the space of a week, latest figures show.

According to the latest data in the week to April 22, Colchester's average infection rate was 11.8 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 23 cases of Covid confirmed in this seven day period.

The rate has dropped slightly from 14.4 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.

However, Tendring's average infection rate is now 25.9 cases per 100,000 people.

This is because there were 28 cases confirmed during this week.

The district's infection rate a wee earlier was 13.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Almost half, or 47 per cent, of authorities in England have seen a week-on-week rise in their Covid rate, the latest figures show.

According to the Government's latest hotspots map, just three parts of Colchester recorded three or more cases in the week to April 21.

Parson's Heath, Central Colchester and Monkwick each recorded three cases.

Every other neighbourhood in the town recorded less than three cases, meaning the virus is classed as "suppressed" in these parts of the town.
