A SWAN had to be rescued by concerned residents after a bag was stuck around its neck.
Layla Vanhinsbergh and Anthony Wilde both acted to free the animal from its discomfort.
Manningtree Town Council has now called for people to take action against plastic waste.
A spokesman said: “Litter can be dropped carelessly or by mistake, or it can blow out of bins.
“So, as well as not dropping litter, we can try to avoid buying single-use plastic in the first place.
“The more plastic we buy, the more of it there will be in the environment, harming wildlife and working its way through the ecosystem to harm us too.
“If everyone living in Manningtree gave up regularly buying just one item wrapped in plastic, think how much we could remove from our town.”
