A POPULAR festival which had to be shelved last year due to the pandemic will return to Colchester this summer.

The Colchester Food and Drink Festival traditionally takes place in the town’s Lower Castle Park in June each year.

But when the pandemic hit last year organisers decided to delay the event until September before having to call it off altogether.

Organisers have now confirmed details for this year’s event which will be run in line with Covid rules.

The much-loved festival, which regularly brings in thousands of visitors to Colchester, will take place across the weekend of June 26 and 27.

Organiser Don Quinn said this year’s festival was “bigger” than ever and will feature more than 120 stalls offering local and international food and drink.

He said: “We have worked very hard with the local council and lots of organisations to create a terrific outdoor festival.

“We have created an event where you can have a really enjoyable and fun day with the balance still in favour of safety.”

The stalls will be spread over a larger area to allow for socially distanced boulevards to help keep visitors safe.
