A DEALER who was caught with over £300 worth of cannabis said he was a heavy user and had it for his own use.

Hassan Khan tried to escape from officers after they saw him down an alley close to Whalley New Road looking suspicious with another man.

As he was fleeing, he threw a bag he was carrying onto the ground.

He was later caught and scales, two mobile phones, just over 28g of cannabis and £40 in cash was found inside the bag.

When interviewed, Khan, of Naarian Court, Blackburn, admitted owning the drugs but denied being involved in supplying cannabis, saying he had bought the drug in bulk for himself to save money.

The offence took place in June of 2019 with the 23-year-old pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

Jailing him for six months, suspended for 15 months, for one count of the possession of cannabis with intent to supply, Judge Sara Dodd said: “There are some troubling aspects of the pre-sentence report, You are described as minimising and evading your offending.

“But you are a young man, and you have no previous convictions. The delay in getting the case to this stage was through no fault of yours.”

Judge Dodd added: “During the course of the suspension you must do 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days and you must also go to the attendance centre on 20 occasions.

“I accept that at the time and probably still now you are quite immature, and I hope those two aspects of this order will address your behaviour and make sure you don’t trouble the court again.

“If you reoffend again in the next 15 months, you will be resentenced.”
