POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery as they search for two suspects.

It is understood the incidents happened on Monday, April 12 at some point between 9pm and 9.30pm on Girling Street, Sudbury.

The victim, a man, 20, and a woman, 18, were walking home, when they were approached by two males.

Police say one of the males asked for a light and then asked them if they wanted to buy cannabis.

They said no and then the second male started demanding money from them, and hit the woman to the face with his palm and she fell to the floor.

As the victims tried to run away the second male caught up with them and was shouting for money.

The female was pushed on the floor and pinned down causing minor bruises and scratches.

The offenders then fled the scene empty handed.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: "The first suspect who asked for the light was a white male and described as having curly brown long hair in a pony tail, was 25 years old, about five foot ten inches tall and had long bushy beard, and was wearing a checked navy shirt, dark trousers, and dark trainers.

"The second male who demanded the money and pushed female about was white, with short brown hair, with a gingery beard, 20 to 25 years old, was of skinny build, five foot ten inches tall and was wearing dark tracksuit bottoms and a grey waterproof jacket.

"Enquiries are on-going to identify the offenders and anyone who witnessed the incident or has knowledge of who the offenders were should contact Bury St Edmunds CiID quoting crime reference 37/18344/21."
