COLCHESTER’S annual half-marathon has become a key date in the town’s sporting and social calender.

For obvious reasons, the hugely-popular 13.1-mile trek is taking a breather this year, as it did in 2020.

However, it will return with a vengeance next spring and be eagerly-anticipated by those who take part, those who watch on and support it and the various good causes that benefit from funds raised.

For today’s Nostalgia spread we’ve laced up our running shoes for a look back at half-marathon pictures from yesteryear.

The race was first run in 2011.

It was fully booked 17 days before the race and 1,000 runners pounded the pavements, getting underway at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Over the years seasoned runners, first-time racers and those donning fancy dress have all laced up their shoes to take part.

It is now so popular thousands of people sign up months in advance to get their place and four years in it was officially named the fastest-growing race in the UK by governing body UK Athletics.

Organised by the Colchester Colne Round Table, the event has raised thousands of pounds for a variety of charities over the years.
