A woman has been flown to hospital by air ambulance after a serious crash on the A120.

The road is closed near Great Notley this afternoon following the collision, which took place near the Panners roundabout.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area whilst emergency services work at the scene. 

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are currently on the scene of serious collision on the A120 at Great Notley.

"A road closure is in place on both sides of the road, including the on slip and the off slip roads.

"A female patient has been taken to hospital for treatment by air ambulance.

"We are urging people to avoid the area while we carry out our investigations."

Highways England has put in place a diversion route at the scene.

A spokesman said: "Essex Police lead the response to this incident and have closed the road due to a serious collision.

"Highways England are liaising directly with Essex Police to assist with traffic management and to carry out any necessary repairs.

"There are slight delays on the approach to the closure. 

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. 

"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

This is the dviersion route:

  • At Panners Interchange exit onto the A131 through Great Notley and Great Leighs.
  • Continue on the A131 to the roundabout with the B1008.
  • At the roundabout take third exit onto the B1008 to Great Dunmow.
  • Continue on the B1008 through Ford End and Barnston to rejoin the A120 at Dunmow South Interchange.
