Julia Bradbury recognises Dedham walking route in ITV show

The picturesque walk through Constable Country from Dedham via Flatford was highlighted on ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100.

It’s the second round of recognition for the village this week, after it was named as one of the best locations to live in the east of England.

Website Ramblers Routes worked alongside Ordnance Survey and the National Trust to help ITV find the nation’s best walks, with hundreds of people taking part in the survey.

The show was fronted by presenter Julia Bradbury, who said: “Walking is one of Britain’s best loved pastimes. Every month, up to nine million folk pull on their boots and head to the great outdoors.”

Now, more than ever, as the spring sun beams upon us many people will be donning their hiking boots and setting off.

The walking route in question is a circular one which consists of firm paths and farm tracks, with some trails over fields.

It will take you through the countryside to the south of Flatford before returning to Dedham, with ramblers having also been known to get up close and personal with the resident cows on the way round.

For lovers of that nostalgic, vintage countryside vibe there are numerous stiles, latch gates and bridle gates to amble over.

Hikers should keep an eye out for Willy Lott’s cottage, which appears in one of renowned artist John Constable’s most famous paintings ‘The Hay Wain’, and still looks unchanged to this day.

There is also a Grade I listed watermill which dates back to the 18th century.

The scenic walk alongside the River Stour will suit most abilities as it takes place on a series of fairly flat footpaths.

Ramblers Routes has the trek’s distance at about seven miles long, filled with wonderful scenery and fine views of the Dedham Vale area of natural beauty throughout.
