Drivers have been urged to be careful after a hole opened up in a road in Colchester.
Essex Police says there is a lane closure on the junction of Mersea road and Berechurch Road.
In a Tweet the roads policing unit described it as a "large hole".
The tweet said: "We are awaiting highways to attend and deal. Please be careful if in the area."
Traffic is already building in the area and causing delays along Mersea Road.

In December a different sinkhole opened up in Mersea road.
At the time Essex Highways said the hole had appeared on the road close to the junction with Queen Elizabeth Way.
Ward councillor Dave Harris (Lab, Maypole) sent this picture from the scene this afternoon.
He said himself and colleague Lee Scordis (Lab, Abbey) had been "warning this would happen for weeks".
