A CANCER trust is attempting to break the world record for the largest simultaneous self-check for testicular cancer.

Colchester-based charity the Robin Cancer Trust’s world-record attempt will take place at 2pm on April 3 via Zoom.

The charity, founded by Toby Freeman after he lost his brother Robin, 24, to the disease, hopes to beat the record of 236 checks.

Toby said: “We want to bring men together for this event to raise awareness, reduce embarrassment and save lives.”

About 2,400 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer every year in the UK (more than six per day) with it being most common in men aged 15 to 45.

Testicular cancer is also on the rise – incidence rates have increased by more than a quarter since the early 1990’s.

However, it’s also one of the most curable forms of Cancer, if caught early, it’s 98 per cent curable which is why monthly self-checks are so important.

Stand up comedian Richard Herring, who underwent surgery for testicular cancer, added: “I would encourage all men to not only give themselves a little once over every few weeks but also to do it as part of this event and get their ball or balls into the Guinness Book of Records.” Good luck to you (b)all
