FUNDING has been agreed to pay for a Police Community Support Officer for Harwich for another two years.
Harwich Town Council and Tendring Council will each pay £40,000 towards the cost of the officer.
The district council’s cabinet approved updated budget plans to match-fund the position for a further two years on Friday.
The initial two-year period finishes at the end of March.
Councillor Ivan Henderson welcomed the decision to continue the initiative.
He said: “This is really good news as it means there is a visible uniformed presence on our streets.
“The town council has a great relationship with our PCSO and we are able to forward any concerns about hotspots and other matters to him.”
“He is solely dedicated to the Harwich area, but may at times be needed elsewhere in the district for operational reasons or emergencies.”
