A TEENAGER who suffered from muscular dystrophy died after falling in the shower.

Assistant coroner Michelle Brown concluded 13-year-old Tomos William Iles-Spowart, from Colchester, died as a result of fat embolism due to muscular dystrophy, steroid use and a fall on September 24.

Tomos suffered from muscular dystrophy, learning difficulties and ADHD.

An inquest heard yesterday Tomas’s mother, who was his full-time career, was preparing him for a shower when she went to get a towel when she heard him cry out and rushed back to see he had fallen over in his shower chair.

She continued to watch him throughout the night but became concerned and called an ambulance.

Upon arrival at Colchester Hospital, Tomos’s oxygen levels were low and his lungs had filled up with fluid.

He later died at the hospital.
