A SHABBY graffiti ridden wall at the entrance to Greenstead in Colchester is undergoing a total revamp.
Labour ward councillors Julie Young, Tim Young and Tina Bourne all donated some of their locality budget to the project, which started this week.
Ms Young also topped up the funding with cash from her Essex County council locality budget, and managed to persuade both County Hall and Colchester Council to top up the kitty.
She said: "The area was looking very tired and if you don't invest in the environment it ads to the negative impression of the area.
"Eventually by hook or crook I was able to assemble the funds.
"We went for a nice green colour which goes well with Greenstead.
"Some anti-graffiti paint will be used so we can stop it being defaced.
"Hopefully people will think it makes a big difference to the area."
Works are also taking place to paint the nearby underpass in St Andrew's Avenue.
