A YOUNG boxer died after being stabbed following an altercation, an inquest has heard.
Luke Bellfield, 18, from Rayleigh was stabbed in the incident in Old Leigh on February 26.
An inquest into this death was opened yesterday at Essex Coroner's Court in Chelmsford, the hearing heard he died at Southend Hospital.
Sean Horstead, area coroner said: "I am opening the inquest into the death of Luke Bellfield. On February 26 he was involved in an altercation in Leigh and received a stab wound.
"He was taken to Southend Hospital and was pronounced as dead at 7.44pm, this is all provisional information.
"There is a police investigation and this inquest is adjourned for the investigation, and the date is subject to this."
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Luke Bellfield on March 1 but was later released on conditional bail until March 26.
Essex Police is continuing the investigation into the teen’s death.
