A LONGSTANDING MP will be discussing the use of science advice in policy at Essex University's Regius Lecture in Political Science.

Professor Roger Pielke is a leading scholar on the relationship between science and policy and the author of The Honest Broker.

He has recently been awarded a grant from the US National Science Foundation to compare science advice and policy responses in the coronavirus pandemic across a host of countries.

Professor Pielke is holding Essex University's Regius Lecture tomorrow, which will be followed by commentary from Harwich and North Essex's MP Sir Bernard Jenkin and Dr Camilla Stoltenberg is Director of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

An Essex University spokesman said: "This lecture will draw on examples from his new research on Covid responses, but it will also consider science advice and policy decision making more generally."

Sir Bernard, who has been Harwich's MP since 1992, is the chairman of the House of Commons' Liaison Committee, which considers general matters relating to the work of select committees.

He has written on the lessons for the Covid pandemic and calls for reform of UK policymaking and the civil service.

The event will be accessible to a general audience and open to the public online.
