A SELF-EMPLOYED hairdresser has expressed her excitement at being gifted the opportunity of a lifetime to meet her industry inspiration.

Sade Dubbini, who founded Professional Haircare at Home, has owned her own mobile business in Coggeshall for six years.

She has suffered a tough year due to the pandemic but now has a chance to meet her idol.

Mis Dubbini was selected from a competition to be mentored by industry leader Anthony Mascolo at his studio in London.

The revolutionary hairdresser, who is a sibling of one of the founders of Toni and Guy, created his own company, TIGI International Creative Team, in 2003.

Miss Dubbini will get the opportunity to showcase her skills to him in October.

She said: “I’ll be going to work with him and be given the opportunity to create a piece of work under the guidance of him and his team which will be amazing.

“This work will be photographed and then published by his magazine, something I’ve always dreamt of.

“I’ve always admired his work from afar and I am really amazed to be given the opportunity to be able to go and work with him directly.

“He does lots of creative work and really pushes the boundaries in terms of artistry.

“I think of all the stylists I have ever admired he is the one I’ve found the most inspiring because of the artistic elements in all he does.

“He’s very creative and I love the way he sets big precedents all the time for different ways of working; he has had a really big impact on the industry in his lifetime.

“He is amazing, this is the best thing ever for me, he is my inspiration. Even just to meet him would’ve been great but to work alongside and be mentored by him is an incredible opportunity.”

For Miss Dubbini, the last year has been a tough one as the hairdressing industry has been particularly hard hit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She added: “Lockdown has been difficult, very frustrating.

“I understand why we had to close, and it was for the greater good, but as an artist and a creative person it is inhibiting because it is part of your DNA to want to express yourself through your work.

“I was sad I had to pause but the industry has been really responsive and taken the role it has in protecting people seriously.

“I can’t wait for when I can work again. Financially it has been difficult for the industry and especially when you are self-employed.”
