DETAILED plans for 200 homes on a piece of land in Tiptree have been unveiled.

Gladman was refused permission to build the homes on land in Barbrook Lane, Tiptree, in 2019, but appealed Colchester Council's decision.

A public inquiry was held and the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Robert Jenrick stepped in to decide on the bid.

The controversial plans sparked dozens of objection comments and saw Witham MP Home Secretary Priti Patel join forces with residents to oppose the bid.

After the successful appeal, a reserved matters application for the same number of houses was submitted last month by Bloor Homes.

The plan includes a more detailed look at what the layout for the land could be.

Of the 200 homes, 48 are affordable rent and 12 are shared ownership properties.

The breakdown of properties in the plan include 12 one-bed apartments, four two-bed apartments, seven two-bed bungalows, eight three-bed bungalows, 46 two-bed houses, 58 three-bed houses, and 65 four-bed houses.

There will also be a central park and plans for electric charging points in every property with a garage.

A planning statement by Pegasus Group on behalf of Bloor Homes said: “The most up to date housing requirement for the district is set out in the Strategic Housing Market Assessment, produced January 2016.

“It shows that there is a greater need for 3-bedroom homes, and then 2-bed and 4-bed homes.

“The scheme is brought forward in accordance with the outline planning permission and relevant adopted development policies.

“This Planning Statement demonstrates the proposed development is consistent with the relevant policies of the development plan and relevant material considerations.

“In conclusion, this submission demonstrates that the proposal represents sustainable development.

“As such, it is respectfully requested that these details are approved without delay so that this much-needed development can be commenced as soon as possible.”

Pegasus Group helped Gladman appeal Colchester Borough Council’s refusal of the scheme in 2020.

A consultation on the plans runs until March 18 and a decision date has been set for May 18.

Colchester Council will have the final say on the proposals.
