NORTH east Essex is now ranked first in the East of England, and third nationally, for the coverage of first Covid vaccination doses given to its adult population.

Ed Garratt, executive lead for the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) made the announcement yesterday (Thursday, February 26).

He said: "I can report that the Suffolk and North East Essex ICS area is now ranked 1st in the East of England and third nationally for the coverage of first doses given to our adult population."

The latest national published figures record that on Sunday, February 21, 40.8 per cent of the system's adult population had been given their first jab - that equates to 329,002 people.

Mr Garratt added: "I am truly grateful to everyone’s teamwork - and indeed hard work - that has lifted us to this position.

"This news, combined with the significant reduction in Covid-19 positive patients in our hospitals, provides optimism that we are moving in the right direction and that our efforts to protect the population are having a positive impact."
