A COLCHESTER company has secured a £1 million contract to manufacture, supply and install fire doors to a housing association.

Fire Door 60 has acquired the promising contract with a housing association based in south London.

The company, which has factories in Colchester and Boreham, makes wood and steel fire doors for people across the region.

Fire doors protect commercial buildings from the spread of fire by confining the blaze to a specific area for a longer length of time.

The firm’s main focus is to produce fire rated doors for the residential market.

As part of the new contract, Fire Door 60 will manufacture and supply 30-minute and 60-minute fire resistant doors.

These will be apartment front doors, communal doors and riser doors.

Christopher Walsh, the managing director, said the contract could not have come at a better time, following a difficult year caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

He added: “After a very tough trading year where all business have suffered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the hard work everyone put in during lockdown is now showing its true worth.

“This contract will secure all jobs for the forth coming year and will allows us to employ more people to support this and other contracts.

“This contract has allowed us to expand into more premises for storage and assembly and will secure the future of the business.”

The company’s manufacturing facility was opened in Colchester early last year by MP Will Quince.

The facility is based in Old Heath.

The company also has factories in London and Cambridgeshire.

Fire Door 60 was launched back in September 2018.

Due to the new contract, jobs will be coming available for manufacturing and installation over the coming weeks.

Applicants with any woodworking or machinery experience would be advantageous for the positions.
