RETAILERS in Colchester town centre are “ready and raring to reopen”, a business leader has said.
Under Boris Johnson’s road map for the relaxation of lockdown restrictions in England, non-essential shops could reopen from April 12, provided Covid stats are moving in the right direction.
Sam Good, manager of Our Colchester Business Improvement District (BID), said he was confident the town centre would bounce back and be a safe destination for shoppers.

He said: “We are ready and raring to reopen. I know businesses are looking forward to welcoming people back.
“Businesses have been there, done it and got the t-shirt in regards to reopening now.
“There is a lot of positivity around the town centre. We are still getting inquiries about new businesses wanting to open.
“We have some really exciting plans we are working on around getting people back into the town centre safely.”
He added: “Previous re-openings went really well and we had good footfall stats as well as good compliance with Covid rules.”
