TWO parts of Colchester have seen less than three cases of coronavirus in a week, according to the latest Government figures.

The latest stats, from the seven days to February 16, show there were fewer than three Covid cases recorded in both Wivenhoe and University and West Mersea during this period.

The pandemic is now officially classed as "suppressed" in these two parts of the borough.

Several other areas have also recorded six or less coronavirus cases too.

In the seven days to February 16, Colchester's average infection rate was 100.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The borough's average infection rate continues to fall and is below the average for England - which is 128.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Tendring's infection rate over this period was 180.8 cases per 100,000 people.

On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will set out his "road map" for the UK exiting lockdown.

The Prime Minister is expected to speak in Parliament this afternoon, at around 3.30pm, according to reports.

There will also be a Downing Street press briefing, lead by Mr Johnson, which is expected to be this evening at 7pm.

The Prime Minister lead a Covid committee meeting on Sunday to iron out the final details of the proposals.

The "road map" for exiting lockdown will be heavily reliant on the latest data alongside figures of cases, deaths and hospital admissions.
