A MAN told a court he had no memory of telling two police officers he would fight “everything and everyone”.

Darren Humble, 30, said he had been drinking more due to the coronavirus lockdown, leading to a verbal confrontation with police officers in November last year.

Bethany Richards, prosecuting at Colchester Magistrates’ Court, said: “At about 12.15am, police officers were asked to attend Brooklands, in Colchester.

“Mr Humble was found in the street by officers drinking a can of lager.

“They tried to verbally engage with him but he became verbally abusive - swearing and shouting.”

The court heard Humble said he would “fight everything and everyone”, before adding “Come on, let’s fight.”

Ms Richards added: “The officers saw he was foaming at the mouth, his speech was slurred and he smelled strongly of alcohol.”

Humble was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

He admitted the charge before magistrates yesterday.

Representing himself, Humble, of Valentinus Crescent, Colchester, said the coronavirus lockdown had taken its toll.

"I really don’t remember it," he said.

“I think with lockdown I have been drinking a lot more at home and obviously being unemployed there was a bit of boredom.”

He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £127 court costs.
