A GRITTER ended up in a ditch after skidding on an untreated icy road.

The vehicle slid on a bend in the Dengie area at 14mph late on February 9.

Essex Highways were alerted and attended the scene.

Luckily, the driver escaped with only minor bruises.

Essex Police also attended the scene in the early hours of the morning.

A spokesman said: “Our amazing gritters, out and about making our roads safer, even have a few hiccups along the way, as seen in the early hours of this morning by our local policing team - A Shift in Maldon.

“Please remain vigilant on the roads and please be responsible and only make those essential journeys in line with current government guidelines.

“Be prepared by having an emergency kit in your vehicle, which should include ice-scraper, de-icer, warm clothes and blankets, torch, boots, first aid kit, jump leads, a spade, a road atlas and sunglasses for the winter glare.
