DRIVERS can expect delays for several weeks due to works being carried out to renew traffic signals at a busy junction.

The works are due to start today (Monday, February 8) at the junction of Drury Road, Maldon Road, and Shrub End, in Colchester.

They are expected to take about five weeks to complete.

Essex Highways, which is carrying out the works, will be replacing the traffic signals at the junction before they become "unreliable and fail to work properly".

Workers will also be installing new extra low voltage equipment to help reduce the town's carbon footprint, and pedestrian facilities will also be upgraded.

The majority of the works will take pace during the day Monday to Friday, with lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals.

Essex Highways anticipates two overnight road closured will be required in Maldon Road.

Maldon Road will be closed from its junction with Shrub End Road to its junction with Drury Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

A spokesman said: "We urge all drivers to take additional care and observe traffic management and signage in place during the closures.

"Bus operators have been informed of our works so that they can consider what adjustments may need to be made to their services during temporary road closures."

The bust stop nearest to the traffic signals in Maldon Road will remain open during the road closures.
