A RESIDENT has said there "was a lot of blood" when an elderly man suffered serious injuries following a collision with a car.

Essex Police were called to the junction with Carnarvon Road, Clacton, shortly before 10am today.

Police had received reports an elderly pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a vehicle.

As a result, he suffered serious head and neck injuries and was transported to Colchester Hospital by paramedics for further treatment.

Officers subsequently cordoned off the scene, near a roundabout in Wellesley Road and opposite the Driving Test Centre, and remained there for several hours.

Drivers had to divert and find alternate routes and one shopper confronted by the cordon described the traffic as “murder”.

Another resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, said the injured pensioner was believed to have been on the zebra crossing at the time of the accident.

She added: “He fell to the floor with a serious head injury and there was a lot of blood.

“My friend was at the scene for two hours trying to help him.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said officers are now urging any eyewitnesses to come forward.

“We were called to the junction with Carnarvon Road at around 9.50am on Friday,” he said.

“The pedestrian, an elderly man, has sustained serious head and neck injuries.
