A BRAVE six-year-old girl has completed all of her radiotherapy sessions for an incurable brain tumour.

Lily Mckelvey, from Marks Tey, is living with an extremely rare tumour which developed in her brain stem after she began violently vomiting in the mornings.

The condition is called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) and fewer than 30 children are diagnosed with it in the UK each year.

After Lily’s diagnosis last month her parents Jack and Elizabeth were told by doctors her life expectancy is between just six to nine months.

The couple launched a GoFundMe appeal two weeks ago in a desperate bid to raise £370,000 for pioneering treatment in America, as treatment is no longer available in the UK.

So far a total of £117,000 has been raised by almost 4,000 donors.

As the donations continue to pour in, Lily has been undergoing radiotherapy at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

She completed her 13th - and final - session on Friday.

Elizabeth said Lily has remained brave and strong for her radiotherapy.

She said: “She’s been amazing and she has been taking everything in her stride.

“She is coping well, but doctors have told us that symptoms can occur two weeks after radiotherapy.

“It take us about an hour to get to the hospital each day, but Lily has got used to the journey and falls asleep in the car.”

Elizabeth, 31, said the radiotherapy sessions last just three minutes each.

The sessions could potentially shrink Lily’s tumour.

With Lily’s radiotherapy finished, Elizabeth and Jack will be speaking with a specialist doctor from New York today to discuss Convection Enhanced Delivery treatment which delivers drugs directly to the tumour.

The couple will then speak to their doctor about what steps to take next tomorrow.

Elizabeth said she and Jack are still overwhelmed by all of the donations they have received.

“We are speechless, and we are so grateful,” she added.
