A NEW part of Colchester now has the highest infection rate in the borough, according to the latest Government figures.

The data, revealed on a map, shows Monkwick in south Colchester now has the highest infection rate in the borough.

It's infection rate is 425.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Parson's Heath has the second highest infection rate - of 416 cases per 100,000 people.

Mile End and Braiswick is no longer top of the pack, although remains in third position by infection rate.

At the other end of the scale Wivenhoe and University has the lowest infection rate across the borough - of 74.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Covid rates in every part of the town continue to fall and are reaching low levels not since for several months.

The figures are from the seven days to January 30.

  • Old Heath & Rowhedge - 315.6 (-39.6 per cent)
  • Stanway - 295.5 (-22.9 per cent)
  • Abbey Field - 292.3 (-41 per cent)
  • Prettygate & Westlands - 287.1 (-8.7 per cent)
  • New Town & Hythe - 283.9 (36.5 per cent)
  • Horkesley Heath, Langham & Dedham - 237.8 (-19 per cent)
  • Highwoods - 221.5 (-63.9 per cent)
  • Tiptree - 184.3 (-51.7 per cent)
  • Marks Tey & Wakes Colne - 173 (-48.3 per cent)
  • Layer-de-la-Haye, Abberton & Mersea East - 166.9 (-26.3 per cent)

Colchester's average infection rate in the seven days to January 31 was 271.2 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 528 cases confirmed during this week.

This compares with an infection rate of 411.9 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.

Tendring's infection rate remains the highest in Essex at 369.1 cases per 100,000 people.

However it has dropped significantly from 549.9 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.
