PASSENGERS will face disruption as work is undertaken to improve railway reliability.

Works on the track between Colchester and Clacton will begin on February 20 and should be completed on March 14.

The main focus will be on installing a new computer-based signalling system which will be controlled from a powered signal box at Colchester.

The system will control the movement of trains more effectively and provide better live passenger information.

This will replace the current system which uses mechanical levers and pulleys to change signals and track points.

During the works, alterations will also be made to the overhead line equipment, and the track layout will be remodelled and updated.

However, the works mean the line will be closed and so a replacement bus service will be in operation between Clacton/Walton and Colchester Town on February 20 and 27 and March 6 and 13 and between Clacton/Walton and Colchester on February 21 and 28 and March 7 and 14.
