You have to think sometimes what is the point of local councillors, what do they do for their wards apart from pointing at holes or puddles.

Now Old Heath/Monkwick/Blackheath faces an increase in population by about 3,000-plus people, what facilities has the council brought to the area (Gazette, January 6, “School plans unveiled for 1,000 home estate”).

All the new homes bonus and Section 106 money from the new homes on Berechurch Hall and Mersea Road, has it gone on this area? No.

Near on £50million is announced on spending, is any being spent in this area? No.

It’s all town centre and the council pet project Northern Gateway.

That’s very nice for the rest of town, but when you have to face going through the biggest bottlenecks in Colchester to get anywhere, you may wonder if residents in the south of town will bother.

Maybe one of the local councillors will respond, but what have you brought to the wards you represent.
