A SUSPECTED drug driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after an elderly pedestrian was hit by a car in Colchester.
Police and paramedics were called to Cunobelin Way at about 3.30pm on Wednesday following a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
The ambulance service sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and an ambulance officer vehicle to the scene.
Several police cars were sent to the area and the road was closed whilst investigations took place.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and care."
His injuries, whilst serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene of the accident.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "A 39-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and drug-driving."
He remains in custody for questioning.
