The coronavirus infection rate in Colchester has jumped as more than 1,000 cases were recorded in seven days.
The rate in the borough is now 734.4 cases per 100,000 people up from 414.5 the week before.
During the seven day period 1,430 new cases were confirmed.
In Tendring the rate has also risen and is now 733.5 cases per 100,000 people with 1,075 new cases.
This is up from a rate of 386.9 in the seven days before.
The figures, for the seven days to December 31, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.
Data for the most recent four days (January 1-4) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.
Of the 315 local areas in England, 292 (93%) have seen a rise in case rates, 22 (7%) have seen a fall, and one is unchanged.
Barking & Dagenham in London continues to have the highest rate in England, with 3,143 new cases recorded in the seven days to December 31 – the equivalent of 1,476.2 cases per 100,000 people.
This is up from 1,106.1 in the seven days to December 24.
Thurrock has the second highest rate, up slightly from 1,371.5 to 1,389.2, with 2,422 new cases.
Redbridge in London is in third place, rising from 1,177.5 to 1,381.9 with 4,218 new cases.
The list has been calculated by the PA news agency based on Public Health England data published on January 4 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.
