Pictures show how a house which once resembled an “ugly block of flats” was transformed into a contemporary haven.

Channel 4’s Ugly House to Lovely House showed presnter George Clark revist a home in Lexden Road Colchester tonight.

The episode originally aired in 2017.

So here we have had a look back at how the home was transformed.

At the time, back in 2017, Wendy and Allan Ramsey had owned the property for two years.

The 1960s build resembled a block of flats and the couple said it was not attractive from the outside.

However, seeing the potential in the property with its vast amount of light and space, they made it their mission to transform it into something beautiful.

Mr Ramsey said: “It was very bland, I didn’t like the look of the house from the outside when I first saw it. But inside there was so much light, it was really nice.

“We wanted it to look more contemporary, we used to drive past this house and it was one that just didn’t stand out in your memory.

“We didn’t think it was very attractive and we wanted it to have the wow factor.”

All in One Property Solutions were the main contractors who stepped in.

They turned the five bedroom house into a four bedroom home with extra dressing room, living space and extension on the back.

The front of the property now boasts a huge staircase and driveway.

Mr Ramsey said: “It is everything we wanted to build and more, it’s just stunning and the design blew our minds.

“The extension is my favourite part, it’s amazing to look at.”

The house was originally designed by Wivenhoe architect Brian Thomas, who was invited back to help work on the rebuild.

The new architect was Chris Dyson, who worked with All in One Property Solutions for four and a half months.

Chris Caroll, director at the contracting company, said: “It was quite an eyesore but the build went relatively well.

“My favourite bit is the rear extension, it was the thing I knew I wanted to build and it’s the biggest statement of the home.

“Likewise with the entrance, there was a lot of wasted space which has been utilised to its full potential.

Gazette:

“The interior is sixties which is very in, everyone has noticed the swinging chairs.

“It was arduous at times but it was a real pleasure.”

One of the challenges the builders had to face was working around cameras, as the whole process was being filmed.

The show, by Amazing Productions, is presented by George Clarke, who is best known for featuring in Amazing Spaces.

It focusses on finding the least attractive houses in the neighbourhood and building them into something that would turn every head on the street. The presenter visited the house when it was close to completion.
